A half-mortal descendant of Faeries, he's been a Guardian for more than six hundred years, but he's never encountered a woman like Sarah. Assigned to protect her, he finds the job tougher than he could have imagined. Oh, he can handle the stalker, and even the renegade Faeries trying to kidnap her. But falling in love means forsaking his role as Guardian -- which is some-thing he could never do.
This is the 2nd book in the series and I have to say that it was much different than the first. Sarah is a recently divorced romance author who was only married for a short amount of time because her ex was only out for her inheritance. Sarah has a talent to sense people's emotions by touching them and has had a hard time having a relationship because of this.
She has had writers block and decides to rent a cottage in Scottland to help inspire her. Ian is a fae and a guardian of the portal. He is attracted to Sarah right away and notices her low self esteem and timid behavor around men. Sarah is attracted to Ian as well but believes she is to old for him at age 38 but little does she know he's been alive for six centuries.
Ian soon finds out about Sarah's talent and that she is half fae herself. Ian and Sarah run into her ex-husband at a party and he tells everyone how cold she is in bed. But this was because every time he touched her she could feel his true emotions. I had a hard time with this part because she is supposed to be a famous romance author but she has only had bad experiences with men. Ian shows her how special she is and shows her how it feels to be truly loved but Ian struggles with his job as guardian and she is only a distraction. This book was only OK for me. I think I preferred the first book because it was set in medieval times and was so different. There just wasn't anything really excitng going on and I didn't feel any hot and steamy chemistry between Sarah and Ian.
